They appear for various reasons.

The most common:

  1. Extremely limited vocabulary. Its deficiency forces a person to use junk words to connect speech and express their thoughts.
  2. Slow transformation of thoughts into words. In this case, the pauses between phrases are automatically filled with words and sounds like "uh-uh", "as if", "mmm ...", etc.
  3. Ordinary laziness and lack of understanding of the culture of speech.
  4. Excessive excitement when expressing thoughts.
  5. Deliberate use of "garbage" in speech (when communication style is part of a “fashionable” image).

It is unlikely that anyone will doubt that garbage in speech must be disposed of. And there are many reasons to start fighting it.

It is almost impossible to make your speech sterile clean (and it is not necessary - we are not robots), but you still need to get rid of most of the speech garbage.

First of all, we take a voice recorder (camera) and record our usual dialogue, for example, on the phone with a friend. Or we comment aloud on the film reviewed the day before.

If you don't have a voice recorder/camera, ask a friend to help you.

You must be constant in your self-control!

If you liked our article and have any thoughts about it, please share with us. It is very important for us to know your opinion!

It is not so easy to remove "garbage" from your speech, because your conversational manner reflects comfort and convenience.

But still, it is unpleasant for others to hear meaningless phrases, they can characterize a person as an insecure person, point out incompetence and confuse the interlocutor with their heaping influence. You yourself, probably, felt not only the lack of words, but also the confusion in your thoughts. Remove unnecessary words from the vocabulary - and thoughts will become clear and consistent.

You will need:

  • The first is a tribute to fashion (“respect”, “message”, etc.) and a splash of emotions (“cool”, “tin”, “damn”, “kapets”, “yo-my”, “fir-trees-sticks”, etc.). d.). Keep in mind that often buzzwords and buzzwords sound very comical. Be above it. Chasing fashion in the use of certain words or phrases is an indicator of illiteracy and insecurity.

If you can't handle the verbal rush of emotions, consider the following advice. Ask relatives and friends with whom you often communicate to monitor your speech and note “blunders”.

We determine the reasons

Let us name the reasons for their persistent consolidation in speech (in most cases this happens unconsciously).

  • Breathe in, don't breathe out- when you feel the desire to "moo" - inhale. A short pause is better than a "moo" linking sentences.
  • Consider- If you need to make an important speech, ask a friend to count "eeee", "uuuu", "mmmm". Counting allows you to better feel and understand the use of "speech killers".
  • Comma = short pause- Remember that when delivering a speech, you need to pause at each comma. You might want to run through a list of ten items as if it were one thought. Force yourself to stop. Your audience will appreciate the extra expressiveness and clarity.
  • Period = long pause- At the end of the sentence, make a long pause. There is some time between your saying the words and understanding them by the public. By skipping this step, you are blurring sentences.
  • If you lose your mind, don't panic!- "Eeeee" appear when you don't have the next offer ready. Your mind is still building a sentence, so you want to fill the pause until ready. Do not do that! It's best to take a quick pause before continuing. The audience will not notice this pause, and the speech will sound better.
  • Plan the hard parts- Know your introduction and conclusion by heart. Also plan for any points that you may have trouble explaining. If you are preparing a business proposal and want to speak delicately on a sensitive issue, memorize this part.
  • We take quality, not quantity- Pronunciation is not the best way to convey large amounts of information. Emphasize only a few points, but do it in detail and with arguments. A good way to fill a speech with "uh" is to stuff 20 minutes of information into a 5-minute speech.

  • The attitude of people around him depends on how a person knows how to communicate and put words into beautiful and stylistically correct sentences, which means that there are more chances to get a prestigious job, get acquainted and start serious relationships with educated and educated people.

    Such "harmful words", most often, are words with a weak lexical meaning, for example, particles (as if, perhaps, here, well, so), introductory words (in short, you understand, in short, then listen, probably in general listen) and so on.

    The easiest option is to turn on the recorder and try to tell some simple text under the recording (for example, your biography or retell the main idea of a book you read, a movie you watched).

    But it’s not at all necessary to give up, of course, miracles do not happen from scratch, there is no “magic pill” that will switch the toggle switch and make you speak correctly and competently, but still there are several ways that can really help you.

    The very first thing you will have to learn is to notice in your own speech the useless “weeds” that come across, and if we cannot cope on our own, we will have to attract caring and responsible relatives.

    The more such controllers will be around you, the better - you will be “fined” more often, which means that the process of self-control will improve much faster. There are other ways to fight your own addiction: read out loud as much as possible.

    Naturally, articles from magazines or the tabloid press are not suitable for this, select high-quality works of fiction, the classics are ideal. Give such exercises at least 15-20 minutes a day, and after some time you will notice that your speech has not only become cleaner, it has been enriched with new words, tongue-tiedness and angularity of speech have disappeared.

    There is another problem: a kind of fashion for words, when everyone around starts using the same word, it sticks to the language so tightly that, subsequently, it is impossible to get rid of it. To prevent this from happening: drive away such words as soon as you feel that they begin to spin in your head.

    Try to always give yourself time to think about what you are going to say in a few seconds. Such an action is carried out in the head of each person, very quickly and not noticeable to us, phrases are selected quickly and to the point.

    But it also happens that the thought you want to convey contains too many details and branches, the person begins to get confused and insert unnecessary words in order to have time to “think out” the rest of the thought.

    Remember, it is better to speak in monosyllabic and simple sentences - they are easier to build, and they are easier and easier to hear by ear than compound ones full of additional descriptions and inserts.

    1. They hinder promotion.
    2. They destroy relationships. "Well, I kind of love you like" isn't likely to melt a girl's heart.
    3. Pollute thoughts, drive a person into a dead end.
    4. They eat up time and energy. Do you have nowhere to send it?
    5. They make it difficult to understand speech and reduce it to primitive communication.

    Are there any pluses?

    Additional benefits can be identified separately for the speaker and for the listener.

    For the speaker

    • poor vocabulary;
    • poorly developed speech;
    • weak thought processes.

    With obscenity and inappropriate repetition of particles, a person fills the thought and speech vacuum.

    For the listener

    An interrogative “yes” or “you know” on the part of the speaker does not necessarily signal his uncertainty, perhaps this is a way to attract the attention of the listener, to maintain communicative contact.

    1. “This is the most” - irresponsibility and laziness, the desire to shift one's responsibilities to another person.
    2. "It" is confusion.
    3. "By the way" - awkwardness, attempts to attract attention.
    4. "Actually" - uncertainty, a tendency to conflict.
    5. “In general”, “In principle” - partial agreement, expectation of persuasion.
    6. "In short" - irascibility, haste, nervousness. But at the same time, verbosity.
    7. “Actually” - self-confidence, tediousness, selfishness, arrogance, a sense of superiority, the desire to read morality and moralizing, “nude”.
    8. “So”, “type” - conservatism and aggression, uncertainty.
    9. "Simply" - a tendency to make excuses, irresponsibility, dependence on someone else's opinion.
    10. "As if" - uncertainty in life, the creation of retreat routes.
    11. "You understand" - sycophancy, flattery.
    12. “Campaign” - a frivolous perception of the situation and oneself, a desire to evade responsibility.

    How to deal with embolophrasia

    I must say right away that the well-known method of replacing one word with another is not effective. For some reason, they love to use it to get rid of the mat. But what difference does it make, a meaningless mate you have goes through a word or the same meaningless "chamomile". We need to act differently.

    1. Enhance your communication skills.
    2. Expand your vocabulary.
    3. Read books.

    What else can be done?

    • get well together
    • break contact;
    • regular preventive maintenance.

    The latter I propose to consider in more detail.

    • insecurity or other personality problems;
    • poor vocabulary;
    • creating an image (relevant for the slang of "new Russians" and "tough guys").

    Without embolophrasy, your speech will become more concise, more precise, more interesting. A pause, not even planned, but caused by forgetfulness, is much more appropriate than mooing, hooting and grunting.

    Afterword

    I suggest you feel yourself in the shoes of those who listen to you. Try reading the poem below (author E. Moshkovskaya):

    “Once upon a time there was this one, like him,

    Well, that means that

    This very thing lived

    With my mom.

    There was another weirdo

    This generally means

    And his beloved brother-in-law.

    The name of the son-in-law

    So to speak.

    And his wife's name was...

    And the neighbor's name was...

    And his parents are

    You see

    And you see...

    And some other uh-uh

    Lived on the top floor...

    And they were all friends...

    Well, that means, and in general.
