“I was wearing new leather pants,” recalls Sergey, which seemed very cool to me. And then a beautiful girl comes up to the stage and pulls my leg. It seemed to me that this was a frank hint of a close acquaintance, and I felt like a megastar. However, as it turned out later, without further ado, she decided to check whether it was genuine leather.
A few days later, the future members of the musical tandem met again in the hall of the university, where Sergey was rehearsing behind the scenes, and on the site - the KVN team, whose players were friends with Irina. “She said only a few phrases, and I immediately offered her to sing backing vocals,” says the musician. “She agreed, and that was the start of our collaboration.”
At first, Sergey played a key role in the duet, who was the composer, arranger and frontman at that time of his musical group "Scream" in one person. Irina got only minor parties. After some time, the team changed its name from "Scream" to "Rio".
To 2002 the first album was recorded, and the guys with a box of discs set off to storm the capital's show business. With Sergey Karpov, Irina Zabiyaka came from Kaliningrad together. When they first came to Moscow, they did not succeed. Despite a dozen successful club concerts, the month spent in Moscow does not bring strategic victories - record labels and radio stations do not react in any way to the demo recording. Upon returning home, the duet, which by that time had reached local popularity in the Kaliningrad region, was invited on tour to nearby Poland.
For three summer months, the musicians tour local venues. They also perform in small clubs and at festivals, the audience of which at times amounted to forty thousand people. But they still decided to finally settle in the capital. They started going around different companies, handing out CDs. One director told them: “Of course, there is something in this, but no one will listen to it. If I take you on, I'll go bankrupt!" And this was said more than once. “Listening to our recording, we felt that it was somehow neutral,” says Sergey, “the drive either appeared or disappeared again somewhere.
Then the idea came to castling, to push Irina to the fore. The idea was so successful that the track of the Russian group, named after the "second name" of the new soloist, hit the Polish radio. In the chart of one of the top FM stations in Warsaw, "Chi-Li" rose to the third place and stayed in the TOP 20 for several weeks, ahead of even the star compatriots t.A.T.u., who only reached the fifth line. Having become popular guest performers in Poland, a year after the first visit to the capital, Chi-Li again storms Moscow. Then one acquaintance introduced them to his girlfriend of youth.
Through an acquaintance who works at one of the recording studios, the demo gets to the well-known sound producer Yaznur Garipov, who felt the remarkable potential in the recording and invited the musicians to record material in the capital.
2 June 2005 The recording began in 2008, for which the musicians managed to adequately prepare - 12 tracks for the new album were selected from more than a hundred songs composed by Irina and Sergey over the past few years. In the same autumn, the first single "Crime" gets to the program director of "Russian Radio" Marcel Gonzalez, who instantly understands the huge potential of new stars and the song is in rotation. Regional FM stations in Russia and the CIS immediately picked up the wave - in just a month, Irina's unique voice sounded on the radio in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.
Following the first track, the dramatic song "New Year in Bed" followed, cementing the success of "Chi-Li". When the group first appeared, many could not understand for a long time who sings: a woman or a man. In their first video "New Year in Bed" they took advantage of this feature. In this video, Irina Zabiyaka was sitting at the table with Sergey Karpov, and they acted as producers. Over the years of its existence, the Chi-Li group was able to achieve popular recognition.
Proof of this are numerous awards and prizes: "Song of the Year", "Golden Gramophone" in Moscow, "Golden Gramophone" in Alma-Ata, St. Petersburg and others. All this is nonsense! I am an ordinary person and I eat ordinary foods, not chemical mixtures. By the way, before I started performing on stage, no one told me that I had an unusual voice. Everyone was just trying to figure out where my accent came from. They even assumed that I was French or Lithuanian, and no one believed that my dialect was Ukrainian. But I was born in Kirovograd, and my childhood was spent with my grandmother in Ukraine.
Let me guess: since then, you simply cannot live without fatty meat and lard.
Oh yeah! These are my favorite products. Nothing tastes better than a good pork steak or chop. And recently I really fell in love with Japanese cuisine and now I eat sushi from morning to evening. And at first, when I rebuilt for them, I felt very bad - I felt nauseous, my stomach ached - but now I gobble them up on both cheeks.
What did you love the most as a child?
Vareniki with potatoes. I came to the village for the summer holidays and ate, ate, ate! Grandmother got up very early to start cooking at six o'clock in the morning. She cooked and baked everything in a Russian oven. Every time we always had borsch or cabbage soup, young potatoes with homemade butter, pork or rabbit meat, dumplings with potatoes, cabbage or berries, pies and fruit jelly.
Did you inherit your grandmother's talent for cooking?
Partly. I never cook as much as she does. Maybe it's because I don't have grandchildren yet! (Laughs.) I love food that cooks quickly. I threw a piece of meat into a frying pan, cut a salad - and go ahead ... And when I cook, I try to use as few different seasonings as possible, because I think that each product should have its own taste. Therefore, it infuriates me terribly when friends, having come to visit me and sat down at the table, demand to bring them ketchup or mayonnaise. I then make big eyes and shout: “I stuck around the stove for half a day, frying these unfortunate chops, so that you would later come and just eat ketchup ?!” But, I confess, I myself sin - I eat sausages with ketchup: they are so tasteless that it is unrealistic to swallow them, and I don’t want to go to bed hungry.
So you often have a rolling ball in your fridge?
It happens that there is no time to buy groceries, but I always have chicken, pork, sausage, cucumbers and tomatoes. Sometimes it's just too lazy to cook.
Do you also fry meat for breakfast?
No, I prefer not to have breakfast at all. I drink coffee: I pour a handful of ground coffee into a cup and pour it with boiling water, I don’t boil it. Once a friend asked me to make him a cup. And then he called and cursed: “Ira, I haven’t been able to sleep for several nights because of your coffee!” (Laughs.)
What do you like to drink coffee with?
With sugar. (Laughs.) When I first arrived in Moscow, I was very surprised that people here, going to visit someone, carry thick bags of food with them and buy groceries. In Kaliningrad, we usually brought a cake or sweets for tea, and here they say to me: “Ira, you won’t be full of sweets! You also need to eat." We have to buy sausage, vegetables, bread, lard.
After such “tea parties” there are no problems with the figure?
All my life, my weight has been kept at about the same level, plus or minus two kilograms. If I feel that I have gained a little, I remove side dishes from the diet. And it’s so stable: when I get on the scales, I see fifty-six kilograms with a height of one meter seventy-four. I remember a time when I got sick and stayed at home for a long time. And then, having recovered, she came to the store and began to try on clothes. Do you know what I saw in the mirror? A child from Buchenwald! I felt so sorry for myself: the bones stuck out, my face was haggard ... And I never allowed myself to lose weight so much again. By the way, in the photo I also always look thinner than in life, but on TV - on the contrary. No wonder they say that the camera adds five to ten kilograms.
A few years ago, Irina Zabiyaka from the Chi-Li group became a real discovery. Her songs conquered local radio stations, and her bass voice suggested strange thoughts. There were rumors that she was a man in disguise. The bully fought off the attacks, and then gave birth to a son and actually disappeared. What prompted her to change her usual way, the singer frankly told ProZvezd.
- Irina, you've been almost invisible lately. Where did you go?
- I have always been rarely at parties: this is not my niche. I am often invited to programs where you need to discuss each other. I don't go to them. Because I think that it is impossible to discuss and condemn anyone. But this is everyone's choice. I'm touring. But she began to pay more attention to her family. After I had a baby, my life changed dramatically. She became more harmonious and full. The son created the correct energy exchange in the family. Children know how to enjoy every minute, live here and now. I try to spend all my free time with my loved ones. For me, this is the most important thing in life. We spend a lot of time with the child: we walk for a long time. We live in nature, so it’s quite simple for us in this regard. Sometimes the son has contacts with other children, but so far not so often. Only by the summer we are going to give it to the section. Maybe go to drawing, maybe martial arts or swimming. Let's see what he likes best.
- Do not think about giving your son a brother or sister?
No, we don't think about it at all. Because children are not planned. They are given to us from above.
- As I understand it, you live in a civil marriage. Is it true that you are going to register your relationship officially?
We are not planning a wedding. Strange information - probably from a series of rumors. There has always been a lot of talk about me. However, I haven't heard anything lately. I did it consciously, deciding to live rather ascetically.

- I myself. I wanted peace. Now I live almost in the forest. Although not far from Moscow - thirty-five kilometers. After leaving there, I began to notice that my health even improved! It's so quiet there! When guests come to me, they are surprised: “Ira, how can you live here? Doesn't it annoy you that it's so quiet around here?" No, it's not annoying. On the contrary, she dreamed about it all her life. It’s a pity that I realized quite late that I’m such a sociopath!
- Don't you miss Moscow?
- I'm not bored. Firstly, I visit Moscow quite often for work. And the rest of the time I feel good at home. I have already said that my health has improved. And it, as you know, directly depends on our mental state. It's no secret that our thoughts are material. Remember how many times it happened: you sit relaxed, don’t think about anything, when suddenly it jumps in your head: “But I’m not a sorceress at all, I loved and love!” What is it for? These are thoughts that visit us from the outside. When you are in the city, you can not always ignore other people's thoughts. When I lived in Moscow, I was disturbed by obsessions, strange thoughts about the catastrophe. As soon as I left the city, all this passed. I began to sleep normally. Therefore, I advise everyone: even if you live in a metropolis, try to relax more often, getting out into nature. Now I live almost in the forest. Although not far from Moscow - thirty-five kilometers. After leaving there, I began to notice that my health even improved! It's so quiet there!
The group "Chi-li" recorded their first album in 2002 - the name comes from the nickname of the soloist of the group Irina, who was nicknamed so by her friends in childhood, having learned that her father was a Chilean revolutionary. This girl was told by her mother, who went on a long voyage on a merchant ship. With another member of the group - composer and arranger Sergei - the singer met in Kaliningrad at one of the student concerts, and he immediately invited her to sing back vocals. But then Irina came to the fore - and the group's rating immediately jumped wildly. In 2005 the musicians were invited to record an album in the capital.
The main intrigue of the group is that from the first listening, no one can determine with certainty the gender of the person to whom this unique voice could belong. The unique contralto of the girl - and she really is a girl, fiery red, with huge green eyes and stunning energy - is woven into the modern rhythms of dance arrangements.
The intrigue was fueled by the group's debut video clip for the song "New Year in Bed", where, according to the script, Irina and Sergey play producers at the casting, and the words of the song are "performed" by applicants of different types, genders and races. Disguised as sharks of show business, the musicians do not reveal their cards until the end of the video.
The group filmed their last video for the song "Heart" in Egypt. But not the gentle sun, which the artists tired of the Moscow winter so hoped for, met them there, but hard trials - sandstorms, hand-to-hand fights with waiters, shooting in icy water, clashes with local police, the guardian of morals, and even cannibalistic attempts - only Miraculously, Irina managed to avoid being bitten by a drunken passenger on the plane, who had a bite to eat half of the cabin.

It has changed a lot. We actually had techno music back then. Then there was no other way, because dance music generally appeared in the form in which we have it now, at the end of the 90s, and therefore we evolved gradually, and now we are doing what we presented to the listeners in our first album .

Are you two in a group?
There are five of us. We have two girl dancers, Svetlana Kulikova and Natalya Kruzhkina, and there is a backing vocalist Mikhail. We also took a percussionist, an African American, he is quite positive, he smiles when he needs and when he doesn't, since he is new.
He loves very Russian folk songs, listens to them a lot.
And how did it come to your mind to take such a member of the group?
We have many more ideas.

Nobody says that Presnyakov sings like a woman, although they sing high. Of course, against their background, I mean, if I sing next to them, then I look even more like that.

I think that the secret of success is still in the combination of hit songs, original arrangements and such a voice. If, for example, I sang some Russian folk songs, maybe I would be surprised, but then people would not come back.

Irina's road to popularity was not paved with yellow bricks. Everything was prosaic. Her musical career would not have taken place without a significant meeting, which grew into friendship, and then into something more with Sergey Karpov. The first meeting took place in absentia at one of the student concerts of the group, in which Sergey was at that time, and which Irina came to listen to. From that moment, Irina and Sergey began to work on a common result. At the very beginning, the composer, arranger and frontman in the group was Sergey, and Irina was a secondary link in this chain. By 2002, the guys had the opportunity to record their own disc, with which they decided to try their luck with the capital's music producers. In Moscow, as a reaction to their songs, they heard only a categorical "no".
Chi-Li - Heart
For the first month in Belokamennaya, spent in search of a musical patron for the group, the guys had to be content with only a dozen concerts in clubs. But this could not bring enough income, and the guys decided to go on a musical tour of Poland, which advised Sergey to take Irina from backing vocals to the leaders. And only after that, the music producers reacted positively to the guys and gave them the green light. From that moment on, Irina became the leader of the groups, which was named after her childhood nickname "Chili".
Today, Irina, as part of the group, has four albums on her account: "Crime", "Summer-Crime", "Made in Chile", "Time to Sing". Her songs, to the authorship of which she is also directly related, were in the tops of the leading radio stations in Poland, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine for several weeks.
