How to identify a melody. Sound recognition of music. We determine the name of the song by sound. Google Play Music is the most convenient way to search for music by sound on Android

The Internet is now actually overflowing with content of various types, which is replenished every day. Finding something new in it can be quite difficult, since even the songs sometimes turn out to be similar to each other and are laid out under the wrong names. About ten years ago, songs were downloaded from discs, after copying from which the compositions were called "Unknown Artist - Track 1" and so on. Now a large number of programs have appeared that make it easy to find a particular song by several lines of a verse or title melody. In this article, we will look at the best utilities and online services for finding songs.

1.1 Midomi

You can use the service on the official website. It allows you not only to find a song by the sound or line recorded on the recorder, but also by the singing of a person. Hitting the notes is also not required, since the program compares the speech determinant with the key. You can also simply record an example of the sound of the track, and the service will find it on its own.

Advantages:

  • Convenient song search.
  • Work online.
  • Ability to connect a microphone.
  • No serious singing skills required.
  • There is a text-only search.
  • On the resource, users will not encounter a large number of advertisements.

Flaws:

  • A flash-insert is used for recognition.
  • Before you begin, you will need to allow access to the camera or microphone.
  • Rare songs may not show up in the search because no one has searched for them before.
  • Lack of a Russian-language interface.

Usage process:

  1. On the main page of the site, click on the "search" button.
  2. In the request window, select the microphone and camera and allow access to them.
  3. Start the timer and start humming. (it is better to play long fragments, as this will increase the chances of recognizing the track)
  4. If the search was not successful, a message with tips will appear on the page. Perhaps the microphone was simply overloaded, which is why the program was unable to select a musical phrase and find it in the database.

1.2AudioTag

The service is available on the official website. In this case, the process of working with the program is narrower. To start the search, you need to download the source file. You can also just specify the address of the song on the network, but this does not add convenience. The service is in many ways inferior to the first option, but if the source code is available, it works much faster.

Advantages:

  • Working with files.
  • Work with links to compositions.
  • The presence of a Russian-language interface.
  • Support for multiple file formats.
  • Working with recordings with different duration and quality, which has almost no effect on the result.
  • Free access.

Flaws:

  • The inability to sing a song or a melody.
  • The need to confirm the action by entering captchas and other things.
  • Melodies are recognized rather slowly.
  • The track cannot be added to the database, so the search is constantly repeated.
  • Lots of ads on the site.

Usage process:

  1. On the main page of the site, you need to click Browse and select a file to search.
  2. After that, you need to confirm that you are a person.
  3. If the song is popular, then you will quickly get the result.

2 Music recognition software

Programs of this type differ from online counterparts by the ability to work without access to the network. Despite this, some software still requires the presence of the Internet, since this is how the search among the mass of options for compositions takes place. It is more convenient to store and quickly process information about live sound from a microphone on powerful servers, which is why the need for the Network still remains. Consider the most common utilities for finding songs by melody.

2.1 Shazams

This program works on the basis of many operating systems, which is why it is universal. You can download it on the official website, but you can use it after a fairly simple registration procedure.

Advantages:

  • Work with all operating systems.
  • Recognition even in the presence of extraneous noise.
  • Ease of use and intuitive interface.
  • The program is distributed free of charge.
  • There is an analogue of a social network with users who are most often looking for similar music.
  • Tracks can be officially purchased directly in the program through mobile platforms.

Flaws:

  • An internet connection is required.
  • No versions for Windows 7 and below. In this case, you will have to run the program on an Android emulator.

Usage process:

  1. Download and run the application. As a rule, it is not required to install it.
  2. Press the corresponding button and start recognizing the composition.
  3. The result will appear in a few seconds.
  4. If it does not appear, try to repeat the search on another fragment.
  5. Upon completion of the search, you can use the built-in content store and officially buy the song.

2.2 Sound Hound

This program is very similar to the one described earlier, but has a number of characteristic features. Among them, it is worth highlighting a simpler interface, limited to just a few function buttons. You can download the program on the official website, where it is distributed for free.

Advantages:

  • Works on smartphones and all operating systems.
  • Simple and understandable interface even for inexperienced users.
  • Distributed for free.
  • The resource works with the Midomi portal, which is why it recognizes tracks with high quality and relatively quickly compared to other programs.

Flaws:

  • An internet connection is required to work.
  • The song database is relatively small, which means that you will have to enter the same query or song several times.

2.3 Magic MP3 Tagger

The program not only finds the artist of the song and its name, but also independently inserts tags with the relevant information into the file. This feature is only available in the paid version. The free option implies restrictions on the processing of information, constantly reminding you of the need to pay for full access. Large freedb and MusicBrainz services are used to identify songs, which is why the process is fast.

Advantages:

  • The program itself can fill in tags from information found on the Internet.
  • Sorting of the added files takes place offline.
  • Rules for renaming and assigning a particular tag can be set manually.
  • The collection automatically contains duplicates.
  • The presence of a free version with a relatively small number of advertising banners that are easy to close.

Flaws:

  • Limited processing in the free version.
  • The absence of new songs in the lists, because of which they may not be found.

3 Outcome

It is better to use third-party programs that have more extensive functionality and use computer resources, rather than storing data on third-party resources. Many applications make it possible not only to get data about the song, but also to add tags to the description. We hope that our article helped you find the answer to the question of how to find out the name of a track by a melody.

Music search software allows you to recognize the name of a song by the sound of its excerpt or video. With the help of such tools, you can find the song you like in a matter of seconds. If you liked a song in a movie or a commercial, you launched the app, and now you already know the name and artist.

The number of really high-quality programs for finding music by sound is not so great. Many applications have poor search accuracy or a small number of songs in the library. This leads to the fact that quite often it is simply not possible to recognize a song.

This review contains only really high-quality solutions for recognizing songs on a computer, which will easily determine what track is playing in your headphones.

Shazam is a free music search app that was originally only available on mobile devices and has recently made its way to personal computers. Shazam is able to determine the name of the songs on the fly - just turn on an excerpt from the music and press the recognition button.

Thanks to the extensive audio library of the program, it is able to recognize even old and less popular songs. The app will show you music suggestions based on your search history.
To use Shazam, you will need to have a Microsoft account. It can be registered for free on the official website of the company.

The disadvantages of the product include the lack of support for Windows below version 8 and the ability to select the Russian interface language.

Important: Shazam is temporarily unavailable for installation from the Microsoft Store.

Jaikoz

If you need to find the title of a song from an audio file or video, try Jaikoz. Jaikoz is a program for recognizing songs from files.

The application works as follows - you add an audio or video file to the application, start recognition, and after a while Jaikoz finds the real name of the song. In addition, other detailed information about the music is displayed: artist, album, year of release, genre, etc.

The disadvantages include the inability of the program to work with the sound played on the computer. Jaikoz only processes recorded files. Also, the interface is not translated into Russian.

Tunatic

Tunatik is a free small music recognition software. It is easy to use - just one button of the application allows you to find a song from any video. Unfortunately, this product is almost not supported by developers, so it will be difficult to find modern songs using it. But the application finds old songs quite well.

Music identification software will help you find your favorite song from a YouTube video or your favorite movie.

From the article you will learn about the most popular methods related to the topic: online music recognition. Don't know the name of the musical composition you like that sounds in the video? Do you remember only the words from a song that you really like? Perhaps you have an audio track, but its name is incorrect? Using one of the methods below, you can easily solve any of the problems listed.

To recognize music, you can use both programs and online services. There are ways to recognize music using a mobile phone. Some of the music recognition options below require a mandatory one, others do without it. The article discusses all the most popular ways to determine the name of musical compositions, starting with the most common, ending with little-known, but working ones.

Which of the services to use is up to you, but we recommend that you apply for a music search in the chronological order that is presented in the article. It can easily happen that the first service does not help you find a song by sound online, then the second or third will surely solve this problem. The services do not have any specifics in terms of musical genres and years of release of songs, you can only rely on the fact that one of them will contain the musical composition you need in the database. It is worth saying that popular, as well as modern audio files are searched without problems on almost all resources.

Online music search services

It is best to use them, because the probability that the desired file will not be found is reduced to zero. This is because the databases of online music search services are huge. There are several ways to search for music through the site:

  1. By providing a file (if it doesn't have a name).
  2. By providing a link to the music track.
  3. By playing or humming a song online via .
  4. With the help of a virtual piano (you need to play a tune).

If the music track you are looking for is in the video, then you only need to use the search by microphone: turn on the microphone, then start the video with the song of interest. Topic: how to determine music by sound from a video file - consider in the review of the service www.midomi.com

The interface of this Internet resource, although English, will not cause problems for Russian-speaking users, finding music with its help is easy and simple. Having entered the site, you immediately find yourself on the page you need, but you can only search for music through a computer (any browser is suitable), the browser of mobile devices will not be able to work with the site. Pay attention to the window in the center (see screenshot below), you need it.

The search is carried out using a microphone, in which you will either sing a song online, or play a music track on a computer or other device, and then simply bring the microphone to the speakers. The source from which the recording is made should sound normal, do not bring the recording device too close to the speakers, as the sound may be excessively loud, with a lot of noise - this will cause you not to find the desired song.

Step by step guide to find music with Midomi

If the site cannot find the name of the song you are looking for, a corresponding window will appear (in the screenshot below). Midomi is one of the best services that allows you to search for music online without significant drawbacks.

Why might the search fail?

The most common reason why a music track is not found is the poor quality of the recording. Please, before complaining about the poor performance of the site, make sure that you are doing a voice search correctly, i.e. in good quality, for this you need to click the "Review your voice search" button. If the recording really turned out in not very good quality, try again by clicking on the green magnifying glass.

If you have achieved the best recording quality, but the audio track is still not found, try to recognize the music using another online service.

The video discusses the principle of the Midomi service (from 1:04), as well as the AudioTag service, which will be discussed below.

The peculiarity of this one, which provides the ability to search for music by sound online, is that it works with links and files. That is, you can either provide the service with a link to the audio file whose name you want to know, or download it from your computer. The service will independently “listen” to your audio track and compare it with the available audio files in the database, then the system will provide you with the found file (you will get the name of the song, album, year of release). It is worth noting that this site is very old, so a huge number of musical compositions have accumulated in its database, which means that the probability that you will successfully be able to recognize the song you are looking for is very high.

An illustrative example of working with the service

First, you need to go to the site and change the language to Russian. How to do this is shown below.

Thanks to the change of the language to the native, any user, as it seems to us, can easily deal with the AudioTag service on their own. Just in case, we will provide detailed instructions and check the performance of the service ourselves.

First way. Let's try to find music by downloading an audio file from a computer. By clicking the "Browse ..." button, you need to select a file stored on your hard drive, and then click the "Download" button. The service supports the most popular audio formats, a complete list of which you can find in the FAQ section.

Before the search begins, AudioTag wants to make sure that you are not a robot, but a real user, so they offer you to solve a simple example.

Upon completion of the operation, we get the result, which presents detailed data about the musical composition: title, artist, album, year of publication of the song. As you can see from the picture below, the service can return several results, but somehow we found out the name of the desired composition.

The second way. Now let's determine the name of the musical composition having only a link to it. Let's just say that we did not succeed in searching in this way. We entered a link to an audio file located in Google Drive, in Yandex storage, even tried to insert a direct link to an audio recording from the VKontakte social network, the result was always the same. If you have information on how to find out if this function works on the site, please write about it in the comments.

Most likely this is a defect in the service. After reading the information in the FAQ section, a solution to the problem was not found. You may be able to successfully use this method to identify music. If the first method caused you difficulties, although it is unlikely, watch the video instruction that is located above (at the very end of the Midomi service guide).

An English-language online music recognizer with a distinctive feature - the presence of a virtual piano - is not suitable for everyone. If you have a musical education or you are at odds with keyboards, then this service will be indispensable in finding a musical composition whose motive is spinning in your head. It is worth saying that Musipedia allows you to search not only by playing a melody on the piano, but also in other ways accessible to ordinary people who do not have musical skills. A significant drawback of the site: the absence of the Russian language.

Searching with a microphone

Let's go to the site. In the screenshot below, in the red square, there is a list of all possible ways to recognize music, we need the last one: or whistle it to the computer using a microphone. You need to click on the words "a microphone" in the indicated line. You can also click on a similar button in the top menu of the site.

You will be taken to the audio file recording page. There are only two buttons: record and playback. As in the first option for searching for music, you will be asked for permission to use the microphone, and then recording will begin. Whether you hum a song or play it by bringing the microphone to the speakers, it makes no difference. Usually a music fragment of 20 seconds is enough, after which you need to press the “stop” button and the service will automatically start searching for a music file.

We will not show how to use the virtual piano as an example, but we will attach a video here, from which you will most clearly get acquainted with the principle of the Musipedia service.

Social network WatZatSong

The specificity of this service is that it is not a robot that helps to find a music track here, but other real Internet users. The disadvantage of the service is that it is only available in two languages: French and English. Avid music lovers should not stop this! Below we will clearly demonstrate how to find music by sound online using WatZatSong.

The essence of the service is as follows: the user uploads a piece of music or a whole song to the site, and other people listen to the uploaded file and, if they know the name of the track, write it in the comments. Of course, this service will be most convenient for users who speak English or French. If you want, you can help people find the song by the excerpt yourself: listen to the audio that other users upload, if you know the name, write it, you will probably be thanked.

The sequence of actions to search for music on the WatZatSong website

We did not wait for users to comment on our post just because they were not too interested in it. Judging by the reviews, the activity in this social network is quite high and they will help you to suggest the name of the audio track very quickly (maximum in a few hours).

If you have an audio file whose name you do not know, in the search format selection window (we considered "Record") you need to select "Upload", upload the file from your computer to the site and perform the same actions: specify the genre, artist's language, write comment (if you have this information), after which it remains only to wait a bit.

Determination with the Tunatic program

You can download the program from the link: www.wildbits.com/tunatic. It works on all versions of Windows and Mac operating systems. The interface of this application is extremely simple and clear, so we will talk about it in just one sentence. Install the program on your computer and run it, then turn on the music from any source (browser, Winamp, Windows media player, etc.) and click the "Search" button in the program interface. Keep in mind that the app requires an internet connection to work.

To make sure that you managed to figure out how to search for music by sound online, through the Tunatic program, we attach a video tutorial here.

Find music with the Shazam mobile app

The only decent mobile app that recognizes music, that's how Shazam can be described. The application is suitable for both Android and Apple, it can also be installed on a tablet. You will receive detailed information about the product on the official website: www.shazam.com/ru. We will only note here that the application is completely Russified and searches for music even better than some online services.

We will not talk about the principles of the mobile program, since it is so easy to use that even a child can search for the name of a song by sound.

A detailed video review of the Shazam app:

Shazam desktop app

The Shazam online app has a desktop version, but it does not support older Windows operating systems. If you have Windows 8 and above, you can easily install the application and use it for free. To use the application, you will need to register by entering your email address or logging in with your Facebook or Google account.

Installing Shazam on a computer

The easiest way is to go to the Windows Store and search for the desired program, then click the "Install" button. Or it can be done from the official website of the application developers: www.shazam.com/ru.

There is nothing complicated in the operation of this program, as soon as you install it on your device and run it, you will immediately understand how it works. We will only describe here some of its features.

In addition to the main function - music search, Shazam for a computer can be used as an audio player. The great convenience of this program is that it can be used to share audio recordings with friends on social networks: Facebook and Twitter, or send files by e-mail. In addition, the program will work even without an Internet connection, but it will not work to search for files right away; you can only make recordings, and it will be possible to get their recognized result only when connected to the network - this is convenient if you have a slow or unstable Internet connection. It is also worth noting that according to the rating of Russian-speaking users of programs capable of identifying modern music, Shazam takes first place.

One of the most famous analogues, which can recognize not only the music being played, but also the song you sang. For an identified song, a link to Google Play immediately appears, as well as additional information about the artist himself, his albums and clips.

A useful feature of the service is the ability to monitor the lyrics of a song in real time. The application is completely free to use, but you will have to put up with advertising banners. In general, SoundHound is almost as accurate in terms of accuracy, but the recognition process itself sometimes takes much longer.

2. BeatFind

This is a lesser known, but no less useful service, devoid of a clutter of features and advertising. In terms of composition recognition accuracy, it is not inferior to more eminent counterparts, and often even surpasses them in speed. During testing, he made a mistake only once, taking a song performed a cappella for a studio original.

The recognized track can be opened in Spotify, Deezer or YouTube. The application also allows you to visualize the music that it "hears" by synchronizing the animation on the screen with it. Even the flash of your camera can blink in bits, as if it were a portable strobe.

3.Music ID

Another little-known and very simple outwardly service with links to Amazon. He does not know indie music well, especially Russian-speaking performers, but at the same time he has a pleasant and convenient interface with a minimum amount of advertising.

All found tracks are stored in the search history, from where you can always return to them. For each song, related songs and links to YouTube videos are displayed. You can easily navigate to all albums by artist. The Russian language is not supported, but special knowledge of English is not required.

4. Google Audio Search and Siri

In fact, you can recognize music around without any applications. Android users can use the audio search widget available with the Google app. Not only will it identify the song, but it will also allow you to go straight to a purchase on Google Play and get more information about the artist and album from the Web.

In the case of Apple devices, everything is much simpler, because Shazam functionality has long been built into Siri. You just need to launch the assistant and ask him "What song is playing?" or just "Who's singing?". A link to Apple Music is included, of course.

5. Telegram bots

Using bots in a messenger is not the most convenient way to recognize music, but for those who “live” in Telegram, this option may well be suitable. You just need to add the desired bot and let him listen to the song by holding the microphone in the message sending line.

One of the most popular bots for this is . He has no problems with the speed and accuracy of recognition. Each found track is supplemented with a link to the Yandex music service of the same name.

Another option is the Acknow bot. It is also quite accurate and fast, but you need to subscribe to the Bassmuzic channel for it to work. Acknow tracks tracks with links to Spotify and YouTube.

And again I greet you dear friends. Please tell me, have you ever heard a song on the radio, just somewhere on the Internet, or do you have a specific unknown file with a song or fragment? And if suddenly you liked this composition, then you naturally want to know who performs this song. Am I saying right?

So today I will tell you how to find out what song is playing on the radio or from another source. It's really cool that services like this exist now. True, such a thing helped me only once, but I just don’t use it. In general, these services help people all the time. Let's start.

Music on the radio

If you catch a glimpse of a song on the radio and you like it, then don't be in a hurry to get upset that you didn't hear the artist's name. The main thing to remember is the time at which the song played, and of course the radio itself.

On the same site, you can also find the song in a slightly different way. If you know the radio station on which this music sounded, then click on the "Radio" menu. Then select sorting, for example, by frequency and look in the radio list. After that click "Today's entire playlist" and scroll to the desired time.

Well, there you will already find who at what time was able to please you with his composition. See again, I found what I was looking for. By the way, I named the time at random and just at that time my favorite band Agatha Christie sounded on the radio, cool).

Midomi

Of all the programs and online services for recognition on a computer, this one is probably the best. Looks good for compositions. And at first I thought that only foreign compositions were being searched. But it turned out that he perfectly finds Russian performers. True, you need a microphone to work with the program, since you will need to play the song to the service on the fly.

Go to site midoma.com, connect a microphone to your computer, play a snippet of the song and click on the "Click and Sing or Hum" button. You should see a sign asking you for permission to use the microphone. Click allow and wait for midomi to analyze your composition (10 seconds).

After that, you will get the result itself. Well, how right? Personally, I got it right. I hope you do too.

Using a mobile phone

Probably the surest way to find your favorite song is with the help of your pocket friend, that is, a smartphone on Android or IPhone.

For this you only need download app called Shazam. This application works via the Internet, but it is really powerful.

It's easy to use. It is enough just to turn on the application, start the music and bring the phone to the speaker for a few seconds. And it doesn't matter where the song comes from - on the radio, from a friend's phone or from a youtube video, shazam will find and show you who performs the song and what it is generally called. Shazam helped me with this composition. Great.

Audiotag

Pretty good service for recognizing sound files. But there is a minus: the service only works with audio files, that is, it does not recognize songs that are currently being broadcast. We need specifically an audio file in MP3, WAV, OGG format (at least a 10-second excerpt), even if not in the best quality.

Go to service website and click on the "Browse" button, then select the audio clip on your computer. After that, click "Upload" and solve a simple mathematical example, and after a short time (10-15 seconds) you will see the basic information on this composition.

I tried it on the same song as the previous time, namely the Tracktor Bowling group with the song "Yours". And what did I see? I got the name of the group and the year of the song. This is all true. But instead of the title of the song and the title of the album, question marks seemed to me.

At first I thought that he just somehow didn’t recognize it, because I specially cut off a piece from the song, re-saved it so that all the information on it was erased. But then I calculated that the number of question marks corresponds to the number of letters. That is, in the Title column (song title) is ????, which corresponds to the name “Your” (four characters each), and in the album title is ??????? ?? ?????, which corresponds to "Half a year until spring."

Everything is correct. Hence the conclusion that the program determines well, but does not prescribe Russian characters.

Seems easy, doesn't it? Try it yourself. And please write in the comments which method you personally prefer. I'm just curious about it. I would just highlight Shazam and then midomi.

And of course, none of these services is a panacea. Of course there will be compositions that she can't identify. This can happen under various circumstances. But still, these are really good snrvises and in the vast majority of cases they do their job.

Well, that's all I have for today. I hope that you liked my article. And to keep abreast of everything new and interesting, I recommend that you subscribe to blog updates. In the meantime, you can read other articles. I am sure you will find something interesting for yourself. Bye bye!

Sincerely, Dmitry Kostin.
